An Impending Public Health Catastrophe in the Making

Due to the record high & growing numbers of Americans who have no health
insurance, emergency rooms thru out the country are already overcrowded
as it is.

Have you been to an emergency room lately?

As it is, emergency departments are severely stressed, with high levels
of ambulance diversions and a lack of intesive care beds, but it is
thought that this year’s strain of influenza might turn out to be more
severe than last year’s.

According to a knowledgable Doctor (linked below), the crowding in our
emergency rooms is delaying treatment, frustrating patients, burning out
staff AND it’s promoting the spread of disease.

Our Congress people, as highly paid as they are, they are doing nothing
but putting their heads in the sand, like ostriches.  They are simply
not doing their job.  Congress should call for hearings, or a "crisis
summit", to draw up plans for the extra "surge capacity" that’s expected
this year.

Among the key recommendations suggested by experts are these:

* Give Doctors and Nurses who work in emergency rooms priority for
getting vaccinated.  If the Doctors and Nurses are sick, they can’t help
patients.

* Find a way to keep influenza patients out of emergency room hallways
while they wait for admission to the intensive care unit or main
hospital wards.

* Postpone elective surgeries, to free up intensive care bed space for
flue patients, in communities with severe flu outbreaks.
* Provide federal and state money to help hospitals pay for treating the
surge of patients in their emergency rooms who have no insurance.

learning about literature

Do Senior Citizens lose interest in learning anything new just because
they have passed a milestone, age-wise? Does anyone teach literature
and good reading to Seniors or is there just no interest in keeping
mentally active?

Permax and heart problems

It seems like there may be some heart damage issues related to the drug
Permax. Permax is used in the treatment of Parkinsons disease, but may cause
some problems to the heart valves. If you check out
http://www.bigclassaction.com/class_action/permax.html they have some more
information that may be of interest. The site also offers free case
evaluations for those who have had such issues. I hope this might be of some
help.
